But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
In the letter to Philemon, Paul is asking him to prepare for a place where he could stay when he gets out of the prison.
And the reason for the assurance that he will get out the prison??
Because Philemon and the church was praying!!
Wow, how great it is to be trusted by the powerful man of God to this extent.
Yes, he trusts in God. He trusted that the Lord is going to free him from the prison.
But, he trusts in the power of prayer of the church!!
How nice will it be when someone comes to you and says “Pray for me. I believe God will answer when you pray”
What has Philemon, Apphia, and Archippus and the church done to gain this trust?
Verse 1: ….to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith…
Verse 2: … to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God’s army…
Verse 5: .. Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;
Verse 6: ….That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.
Verse 7: ….For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
Verse 21: ….Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say..
Verse 22: ….for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.
- Encourager of the faith and fellow believers
- Warriors in God’s army
- Full of love that bought joy and comfort
- Possessed faith that worked with power for Christ
- Overflowing love that made others stronger
- Persistent in prayers
How many of those characters can be attributed to each of us?
Do people come to us and say, “Pray for me. I believe God will answer your prayers”?
For that, we need to become more like Him so that people will see Jesus in us and know Him through us.
Are we reflecting Him, His love, His obedience and His faithfulness?
