8 And before the men went to rest, Rahab came up to them on the roof,
9 And said to them, It is clear to me that the Lord has given you the land, and that the fear of you has come on us;
10 For we have had news of how the Lord made the Red Sea dry before you when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, on the other side of Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you gave up to the curse.
Reading this portion reminded me of a funny story I read long back:
Once a bar opened opposite to a church. The church prayed daily against the bar business and sure enough, days later the bar was struck by lightning & caught fire destroying it.
The bar owner sued the church authorities for the cause of its destruction, as it was an action because of their prayer. However, the church denied all responsibility!
Finally, the judge commented,
“It’s Difficult to Decide the Case because Here We have a Bar Owner Who Believes in the Power of Prayer & An Entire Church that Doesn’t Believe in it !”
Both the biblical and the other story records ‘the faith on an unbeliever ‘ in the Christian God or Jehovah
It poses a challenging question “ What about the true believers??”
Do we have half the faith of Rahab?
Rahab had ‘heard news’ of the God of Israel.
She never had any experience or miracle to make her strong in faith.
She never saw the pillar of cloud or the wall of fire that protected the tribe in the desert.
She had not tasted the manna or drank the water from the rock.
She had NO first-hand experience of the God of Israel.
And yet, she tells the spies from Israel “It is clear to me that the Lord has given you the land”.
Because she had news of the Lord.
Oh, the lady referred to as the loose woman, does she put your doubt-y and unstable faith to shame??
She did that to me.. I admit.
We have ‘the Lord of hosts on our side’.
‘The king of kings’
‘The creator of heaven and earth’
‘The one who parted the red sea, brought down the walls of Jericho, fed 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish’
Can we start believing Him, I mean really trusting in Him, my dear fellow believers??
Prayer: Lord, help me to believe in You, trust in You and have strong faith in You that with each passing day, the faith grows more and more and not less and less.
