Ezra was a:
- Priest (Aaron’s lineage)
- Teacher of the law
- Man who had the favor of God as well as the King
In short, he was a man who knew, followed and even taught the law of the Lord.
In Ezra 7:11-27, we see a second open invitation for the people to return back to their freedom and worship. Though that would us think a lot of people who have jumped at the opportunity, they DIDN’T.
A lesser number of Israelites (compared to the first return) take up this opportunity to return back.
Think again! How many second, third and fourth opportunities did we neglect so far? How can it not convict us when we have ignored and moved on when God threw chances at us, hoping we would grab at least the 100th one.
PREPARATION FOR THE RETURN
The return of the exiles under the leadership of Ezra was not unplanned and spontaneous. Ezra prepared well for the journey.
He sends out men to find Levites and attenders for the Levites
He proclaims a fast and prayer, for safe journey
There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.
The man well versed and well favored by God as well the king was talking about humbling himself.
